Hi,
I figured I'd "post while the iron's hot" so to speak. I'm generally
pretty quiet on mailing lists, but I assume there will be the usual
"introduce yourself" falderal.
By day, I'm a research applications programmer and de facto sys admin
/ webmaster for the Gallaudet Research Institute at Gallaudet
University in Washington, DC. By evenings and weekends, I don my
costume (which looks remarkably like the jeans and T shirts I normally
wear) and go out doing battle against the forces of proprietary,
closed-source software as the team contact for the Ubuntu DC "LoCo"
(Local Community), and as one of the hosts of the One Laptop Per Child
(OLPC) Learning Club DC / Sugar Labs DC. Several people in both
groups have a real interest in FOSSED (Free and Open Source Software
in EDucation).
Although I haven't made many inroads at Gallaudet in terms of
promoting Open Source, perhaps the fact that we're 70% federally
funded, combined with OSA will push things in that direction.
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. And now, I'll go back to
being vewy, vewy qwiet. ;-)
