[Marketing-wg] Open Source for America - Marketing team meeting

Below are the minutes from our team meeting for Jan 28. Please send any

Ideas discussed centered around three key topics:

 

Membership Growth Activities

Social media use - take advantage of twitter/ facebook accounts. Team to
post more frequently about activities 

Newsletter - Nik suggested we use the newsletter to pull recent content
from the web and send out to members, rss feed. (Nik Kalyami owner)

 

 

Content Creation

We need content that shows govt use of open source vs success stories of
individual companies. We discussed how some success stories could be
rewritten to fill this need and ask various individuals to look at their
respective collateral libraries to find examples that can be repurposed.

We decided to work on two white papers for the library

Cost benefits of open Source (will look to pull cost benefit info of
open source examples into a single paper)- Nik Kalyami and Deb Woods
agreed to work on this  (if others interested please let
Deb.woods at ingres.com know )

Open Source in Government (this paper will focus on a collection of
example use cases of open source in govt situations) (need an owner /
contributor for this paper)

Podcasts are a good source of information- We need individuals that will
volunteer to do a podcast, can interview various open source leaders in
the space (Please let Deb or Brock know if interested)

We also discussed how to share documents and work in progress materials
amongst the team and decided to utilize google docs. (Nik Kalyami to set
this up for the group)

 

Metrics

Everyone agreed that we need to put metrics in place to track where we
are and how successful the various activities are.

Metrics to include - page views, number of downloads, Membership (Mel
mentioned that Ian Schlezer has web site metrics and Deb will reach out
to get such information and share with the group)

 

 

We would like to do as much over email as possible - please share your
ideas and which projects you would like to work on to this list. We
would like to get the group back together next week. Look for a calendar
invite.
