Besides, if we were only going to reach out to those who are already
using OSS, then we wouldn't be doing much advocacy, would we?
Additionally, OSfA is NOT Mozilla. While we certainly wouldn't mind an
all-open web, it's not what OSfA was founded for. This organization is
specifically to get the US government(s) to use more open source and
open data. If we allow the OSfA to become diffused into bandwagoning
every cause in the F/OSS world, the organization will completely lose
its effectiveness.
Where genuine open social network services exist (Identi.ca), we should
use them out of EYODF* principles, and not be hypocrites. But we
shouldn't blunt our advocacy perspective by failing to embrace any
closed plaforms which can help spread our message.
