I agree. I am not interested in replacing our current functionality by rebuilding the site in Drupal. We currently already mix languages (Mailman is Python) so integrating a Drupal app the same way. If Quercus is a problem then we can always run Drupal on its own port, stitch it together with Varnish and have the processes communicate via SOAP.
Drupal.org runs its mailing lists on Mailman, so it seems like our solution is pretty similar. Let's focus on what you would like to write in Drupal or what existing Drupal Gov2.0 apps we could integrate rather than talking about redoing everything. We're way past that stage.
