I don't know.  There is a 5 page authoritative-looking spec at
http://buypct.com/gift_reference.pdf -- I am not thrilled about page
5, by the way, but there's a chance the complexity there is easily
avoidable with a compatible syntax alternative, and may already be a
relic.  I've asked about that at

I've listed the requirements for learner adaptivity extensions at
http://microformats.org/wiki/gift-syntax#Extensions_for_learner_adaptation
followed by a choice which I'm currently researching.
